exercise 6

I made another postcard and I still can not get the link to work. I love FD FlickR Toys. I have made Movie Posters, Motivational Posters, and a few trading cards. Too bad I have no clue how to post them.

exercise 23

I really like this whole training thing!! I know I was frustrated with some things. (RSS and Tags)I know this will be the very last blog that I will ever do (well maybe I should not say ever). I glad I found FlickR and I will be using Zoho. There was so many cool things that I learned on here. Now I know what a Wiki is! Thanks for showing me Library Thing. I will be adding more books to the site. I am a big baby when it comes to training (a lot of whining and crying on my part). All we had to do at our library was one hour. Just pick one or two of the exercises and do them. Well, as you can see I finished them all. You asked if I would do more training like this? YES, this was so much fun!!!!!!

exercise 18

http://writer.zoho.com/index.do

This is a pretty cool site. I could see how it would be the end of Microsoft Office. I am still waiting for my conformation email from them. I added a picture of my cat to my document. I hope that it will open when you click on it.

Ok I just tried clicking on my link and it will only take me to the sign on page, is that correct or did I mess up?

Ok, third times a charm. With the help of my fabulous boss. $6000.00 and 2 years was not wasted!!!! This was not easy. I did not know that you needed to make it public (should have guessed but I did not even see the public tab) I still did got get my confirmation email!

exercise 22

I checked out the sites. I know that we are trying to set up eBook and eAudiobooks for our library. I think this is wonderful. I had a patron ask about this over the winter. She is legally blind and she downloads them onto her mp3 player. She is a snowbird and her library back how had this plan. I love to read, to have that book in my grubby little hands is wonderful. I don't think anything could ever take its place. But, I do see the usefulness of this. My grandmother was losing her eyesight and would have loved to listen to more books, I love audio books in the car (my new car has hookup for an mp3 player, so I can download more books) Don't get me wrong, we have a great collection of books on CD, but funding is tight and if we get this program up and running we will have a lot of titles to choose from.

exercise 21

I used Yahoo Podcast because I have a hard time sending RSS to bloglines so I figured I would send them to my yahoo account. I typed in book reviews and found some cute Podcast. One was from a high school girl. Rachel Reviews. Cute Podcast. She reviews one book that she read, one that a friend suggested and one that is good for babysitting. I checked out the NPR Podcast, a little dry but interesting. I also check out a Disney one. I did not see the RSS button to add it to my Yahoo account.

exercise 20

I love YouTube!!!!
My hubby and I are always on here. We look up concerts we look up comedians and my all consuming passion DISNEY!!!!! I am such a Disney geek that I watch old fireworks from the Magic Kingdom. I also watch the Country Bear Jamboree and the Enchanted Tiki Room, I also ride the Pirates of the Caribbean whenever I feel little down. I will blog about the fireworks. My husband and I love Disney. It makes us feels like kids, we have no worries or responsibilities when we are there. We run around like 5 year-olds and ride all the rides. We stand in line to take our pictures with Mickey and eat carmel corn til it comes out our mouse ears. My hubby is deployed a lot so this is the one thing that we do for him to unwind. The fireworks are always a big deal at the end of the night. So when thing are a little stresses in the daily grind we come home to YouTube and watch the fireworks. Go ahead and call us dorks.

exercise 19

For this exercise I chose http://www.zillow.com/
I have used this site when I was shopping for my house. It came in handy when I was trying to narrow my choices down and also on making my bid. The site tells you the value of the home and it also give you the value of the homes around it. It will also tell you if any of the homes in the area were recently sold and for how much. There are a couple of draw backs. Some times the developments are too new and the house will not show up on the map. Sometimes they will have the information right but not the right picture, not a big deal but a little frustrating. I have shown patrons at the library this site. (We get a lot of people looking for houses)

exercise 17

Ok after spending 20 minutes (ok maybe 10) trying to figure out how to add my blog (you forgot to mention click the edit button :), did I post that it is after midnight) the site was easy to navigate. I added a few of my favorites. It would be a great site to use at the library for our patron to list favorite books and to write short book reviews.

exercise 16

I really like some of these Wikis. This would be a great tool for our library. I liked SJCPL subject guide. What a great concept. It took me a few minutes to understand what I was supposed to do (could be because it is almost midnight). I also really liked Book Lovers Wiki. If you could combine the two it would be my perfect site. Library success had a lot of good info. Wikis are less frustrating then the last couple of exercises. Yea!

exercise 15

I understood the article about not "keeping the just in case". We have been going through an heavily weeding process at our library. We had some things in our collection that were so outdated but people just could not part with "because just in case someone" needed it. We had the same problem at my old library. It is really had to get rid of books. We have so many get resource on the web that we can use but it is so hard to give up the notion of having something physical in your hands. I know we have to move forward. I know technology is the key to success (and great patron service) when you have a small library. It is really great when you can pull some bizarre article off a Gale Group Infotrac for that 4th grader, but it is also wonderful to curl up in front of the fireplace with the newest Christopher Moore book and your patron can not get that from a laptop.

exercise 14

Maybe I am too cynical. I just don't get the whole blogging thing (or MySpace for that matter). I always thought that that the people who do those things (and the only reason I am doing this is for work) was because they were narcissistic. I just do not have the time to sit down and read about other peoples lives. Apparently in 5 months we will have 1 million people blogging and a ton of people who have nothing better to do but read those blogs and goof off on MySpace. I guess the exercise was not for me to rant & rave so I will stop. I did check out a few of the favorite sites. I also typed in learning 2.0 in all three searches and nothing came up. I decided against tagging my post because I do not want my blog out there sorry.

exercise 13

I guess I am becoming a bigger techno dork then I want to admit. I did not find this site such a big deal. Yes I understand that it is a big help that you can access your bookmarks from anywhere, not just a certain computer. It is a good concept for libraries. I know where you you are going with this. I just did not like the set up of the site. I checked out the PLAN's account and I clicked on the things you had bookmarked. I also clicked on the other peoples bookmarks. The site is just so blah. It makes me want to go to sleep. Now this post makes me want to go to sleep!

exercise 12

http://www.rollyo.com/tinkerbelllibrarian/

I did not like this site or exercise. I thought this was a hard site to navigate. I really did not understand how to find the page for the searchroll. This would be a great site if you have a little bit of savvy but like I posted before I am a techno geek. I was a tad bit frustrated. After I played around on it for a while, I accidentally came across the area that I wanted. It is a really good site and I understand how it could be used in the library system but I just did not find it user friendly. After I posted this I went back to view my blog and I clicked on my link. It took me to the site but my secach engines did not save, so I tried again. same thing. I could not even find the save button so I gave up! I DO NOT LIKE THIS SITE!

exercise #11

http://www.librarything.com/catalog/tinkerbelllibrarian
This is a really cool site!! I added a few books of a few of the authors that I like. The one thing that I did not like was that I had to keep hitting the back button to add books from the same collection. You would think that what you added a book it would bring you back to the main list. Go figure. I like the selection page. I thought that this was a cool feature. I did try the booksuggester & unsuggester but it did not work. Could be our connection. I did tell our teen voulenteir about this site but my coworker beat me to it. TK loves this site. All in all I think this is a site that I will use at home.

exercise #10

I really liked this exercise. I thought that FDtoys, Addletters & ImageChef were the easiest and had the most interesting thing on on. I made these things on ImageChef. I also made a movie Poster on FDtoys and a Disney Sign on Addletters but I could not figure how to post them to the blog. If I can figure it out I will edit this post and add to it. I tried to right click but it would not let me past it here. oh well. I was not that impressed with the Generator blog. I thought that the foo foo menu thing would be fun but it is kind of blah, the rest are kind of cheesy. I guess if I made my own beer it would be a cool site because I could order my own labels. When Sabrina (coworker) and I were playing around on FDtoys we made an motivational poster for the library. How cool are these posters and they are not bad prices! Ok I know I am supposed to add links to the sites that I likes but I have no clue how to do that. I asked 10 people that walked up to the circ desk and they all gave me a weird look. I tried this cutting and paste http://bighugelabs.com/flickr/ but when I click on it nothing happens. I give up for today. I will have to find someone who can help me.

exercise # 9

I do not think that this is easy at all. I finally figured out (with the help of my librarian) how to use bloglines.com. I still think it will take me a little bit longer for me to really understand how to work the RSS thingy. I am having a hard time getting my chosen feeds to stick. I add them and when I go back to look for them it is not there. I did get to add 5 to bloglines. I think feedster was ok. I got a few to work on here. I also found a few that would not save to bloglines did save to my yahoo. I found topix was fairly easy. I had no clue how to even navigate liszen. Yikes! This is making me feel old and stupid and I am only 37. I keep polling all the young airmen that come in here and not a lot of them blog either. Hardly anyone knows what an RSS feed is so we have been explaining it to them, now they think I am super smart (little do they know) Like I said I will have to keep working on my hook up for the RSS feed

exercise # 7

Technology: I think that I am a bit of a techno dork. I love the net but I am not very good at it, ie blogging and RSS . Who knew it would be so hard? Ebay and message boards are so simple. If you need to find a recipe that your great great grandma had and you lost it. Call me and I will find it on the net. Need a super cheap flight to Vegas? Email and I will get it for you. You want to watch the fireworks in Magic Kingdom from 1992. Let me know and I will send you the link. Just do not ask me to right click on the RSS feed for the Northwest Florida Daily News, it just does not compute. I also do not comprehend MySpace. All the technology we have today, cars, trains, planes. buses. We can get to Europe in a matter of hours and we sit inside all day long on MySpace. As we opened the library doors today 12 people were lined up to use the computers. It is a sunny day here in Fort Walton Beach and if I was not at work my hubby and I would have his Harley pointed to the beautiful sandy beaches, not sitting in front of a computer. Sorry to turn this into a rant. I did check out a few of the blogs from this site and I realize that I do not blog as well as everyone else. Library cat's blog is very cute.

exercise # 2 & 3 (7 & 1/2 Habits)

My most difficult is teaching is because it tend to speak really fast. I have a really have a really had time slowing down to explain things. I also am a super fast learner and get a little irritated when people do not catch on as quick as I think they should. (I know, my bad) This is something that I am working on. My easiest is my confidence. I think I am great !!! No just kidding. My mom and grandma just raised me to try to do the best at what ever I do.

RSS exercise 8

This was uber informative. I am a dork and never heard of RSS before. I guess I need to do more on the net beside the Disney message boards and Ebay. I really liked the "feed me" description. I just tried to get bloglines to work and I can not figure it out!!!!!! I hate it!!!!What and I doing wrong? I am right clicking on the rss button and it will not let me copy link. I understand that RSS is very informative but I found this to be very frustrating. I can not find the little orange button or the RSS symbol on most and if I can find it I can not get it to link to the bloglines. I give up on this on. Sorry to be such a big baby!! I do understan how this would be very helpful for the library. I would love to have this on our web page so patrons could click on this for updates on new books, dvds etc. (Also new programs)

Exercise 5

I went to Flickr and I navigated thru the site. Great site by the way! Checked out a bunch of pics. I also made a trading card of us dress up as pirates. It turned out really cute. This site would be really helpful in making poster but that is all I could see for libraries, maybe I am wrong.

Ok I went back and reread the exercise. I thought this picture was cool. I love animals. I would love to be able to take pictures like this. I will keep practicing.
